The Institute of Natural Resources and Environment Welcomes the Advisor to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment for a Visit to the Dugong at the Rajamangala Trang Marine Animal Hospital.

On August 17, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Prasert Thongnunui, Director of the Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus, welcomed Mr. Gomen Teekatananont, Advisor to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and his delegation, led by Associate Professor Sitthichoke Janyong, Vice President of the Trang Campus, for a visit to check on the care and treatment of a young dugong at the Rajamangala Trang Marine Animal Hospital. The visit aimed to follow up on the efforts of the medical team and staff, as well as to provide moral support to the team closely involved in the dugong’s rehabilitation and treatment. The latest updates indicate that the young dugong has successfully adapted to the rehabilitation environment and is responding well to the treatment provided by the medical team.

The Rajamangala Trang Marine Animal Hospital, under the Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus, received the young dugong for care and treatment on August 10, 2024. The hospital has prepared its facilities to accommodate the dugong’s treatment, including a large rehabilitation pool, management of the water system, and analysis of bacterial levels in the water from the rehabilitation pond. Medical equipment has been arranged, and the hospital has coordinated with a veterinary team from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, to assist with the treatment. Additional staff are on standby to provide 24-hour support.
